Plan Update

We're updating our 10-year watershed management plan!

About the 10-year Plan Update

The watershed district is required by law to prepare a watershed management plan every 10 years, and the new RPBCWD management plan will cover 2028-2038. The purpose of the plan is to establish watershed district goals and outline strategies and activities to complete these goals.

Process

To lay groundwork for the 10-year plan update, RPBCWD developed the Ecosystem Health Action Plan (EHAP) in 2024. This effort evaluated historic and current ecological conditions, described ecosystem function impairments, and identified potential protection and management strategies. The update of the 10-year plan will occur in 2025 through early 2027. The effort is being led by District staff and consultants through a process that includes:

  • Needs assessment to evaluate progress on current 10-year plan
  • Review of relevant plans, reports, and programs by others
  • Inventory of land and water resources
  • Identification of priority issues based on community input and resource inventory
  • Development of goals, strategies, and project prioritization approach
  • Review of draft plan
  • Adoption and distribution of final plan

Community Engagement

Stakeholder engagement is an important component of the plan update. Engagement tools will be tailored to individual audiences and will include this webpage, surveys, presentations, digital and social media, promotion at events, media releases, public open houses, and meetings.

Primary audiences will include:

  • Steering Committee (comprised of partner community staff and technical advisors)
  • RPBCWD Board of Managers
  • RPBCWD Staff
  • Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC)
  • Technical Advisory Committee (TAC)
  • City councils and commissions
  • General public: Residents, lake associations, businesses, and property owners
