Aquatic Plant Dashboard
Aquatic Plant Dashboard
RPBCWD has monitored aquatic plant populations in district lakes and select wetlands for more than a decade. Data is collected through point-intercept surveys, which is method of vegetation sampling on a grid pattern. The Aquatic Vegetation Dashboard ⬈ is a webmap that helps users visualize this data by lake/wetland by year. To begin, select a lake; the data shown is for the most recent survey year but others years may be selected. The color and size of the dots on the map represent number of native species (dot color) and total plant density (dot size) at that survey point. Click on a dot to see data details from that survey point. The webmap legend provides a summary of the data from the survey date including a list of native and non-native plant species observed, a count of native plant species observed, the percent of plant coverage in the lake's littoral zone, and a summary of native to non-native species makeup.
The littoral zone is the shallow area of a lake or other waterbody where enough sunlight reaches the bottom to allow aquatic plant growth. The littoral zone exends from the shore to a water depth of about 15 feet, depending upon water clarity.
