Bee Lawn Mix

This Bee Lawn is a mix of:

  • Boreal Creeping Red Fescue
  • Shadow III Creeping Fescue
  • Tenacious Hard Fescue
  • Sierra Vista Sheep Fescue
  • Dutch White Clover
  • Yaak Yarrow
  • Self-Heal

MNL Tips for Getting Started with a Bee Lawn:

New Lawn: Starting with bare soil: Rake seeding area, sprinkle seeds slowly and evenly, lightly rake again, water with approximately 1” of water. Water regularly during the establishment period, or until the bee lawn has matured.

Setting Back Existing Lawn: Set your mower deck as low as it can go to “burn” the existing lawn. Mow in hot/dry weather. Repeat this step in approximately 2 weeks. Rake seeding area, sprinkle seeds slowly and evenly, lightly rake again. Water regularly during the establishment period, or until the bee lawn has matured.

Seeding Rate: Approximately 5 lbs per 1,000 square feet, or 200 lbs per acre

Maintenance:

  • You can mow your bee lawn if you prefer a shorter lawn look. If you choose to mow, consider setting your deck height to 4 inches and only mowing every other week or less. If you choose not to mow, enjoy more of a meadow-type look to your lawn.
  • Water in periods of drought as bee lawn is becoming established.
  • No need to fertilize!
  • Hand pull undesirable weeds rather than using herbicides (broadleaf herbicide will kill the Bee Lawn flowers).
